How Does Your Garden Grow? Ask Year 5!

Year 5 students are asking “What are the best conditions for germinating seeds?” They have been testing their scientific knowledge this week by planning a fair test to find the answers to this question.

“I think we need light!”

“I think we need water!”

“I think it needs to be warm!”

“I think it needs soil!”

The students shared their ideas and then considered how to control variables so that only one thing changed. This would allow them to see the impact that a specific variable was having on their test. Working in groups, they set up their investigation. Over the last couple of days, they have been monitoring their seeds for signs of growth. This experiment helped them to further understand the lifecycle of a plant through scientific enquiry.
