International Dot Day
Primary students find inspiration in a ‘dot’…
In honour of International Dot Day, a celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, the Primary School hosted a range of activities inspired by author Peter H. Reynolds and artist Yayoi Kusama. In his book The Dot, Reynolds tells the story of a young student beginning with just a small dot on a piece of paper, which leads to a breakthrough in confidence and courage. Since 2011, over 26 million people across 200 countries have celebrated this annual event. Our celebration of International Dot Day was further tied in with the artwork of Yayoi Kusama through the creation of an Infinity Room, similar to those seen in various Kusama exhibits at museums worldwide. Primary students participated in International Dot Day by wearing bright, polka-dotted clothes, adding colourful dots to the Infinity Room installation, sticking dots around the Primary Canteen and by turning a black dot into their own original artwork.
