Olympic Wisdom with Shona McCallin

Olympian Shona McCallin inspired Bangkok Patana students with resilience and Gold Medal insights

Shona McCallin, MBE, Olympian field hockey player for England and Great Britain, visited Bangkok Patana School yesterday. Shona competed in two Olympic Games, winning a Gold medal at Rio 2016 and Bronze at Tokyo 2020. She was also part of the England team that won their first ever Commonwealth Gold in Birmingham 2022, adding to her European and Olympic titles.

Our Secondary students were lucky enough to hear from Shona’s first-hand Olympic athlete experiences, whilst also exploring the importance of resilience.

Her top three tips to our student athletes included; 1. Learn about what is in your control, what is partially in your control and what isn’t; 2. learn about your mind and staying in the present in order to focus properly and 3. Focus on the process, set realistic goals and be patient.

Shona’s tips on control, mindfulness and goal-setting are certainly valuable for our aspiring student athletes both in sport, studies and in life.
