Preparing for University Applications
Secondary students start on their Patana Pathways
At the University and Careers Coffee Morning, the Counselling team introduced parents to the year ahead in fairs, workshops and, finally, applications. Each Counsellor introduced various aspects of the process that students will go through as they pursue their Patana Pathways after graduation. Parents were encouraged to attend university fairs with their students, with the important note that students should be the ones interacting with university representatives. There was also an overview provided about the information available to students through the platform Cialfo, in addition to how the counsellors help to guide students on selecting their best fit institutions.
Considering the number of applications submitted to universities each year, Mr Kim noted that students should avoid “stealth applications”. It is recommended for students to express their interest for a specific university with that university’s representative directly in order to help their application get noticed. Students can benefit from individualised advice and information that can help their application as well. Parents were then invited to play a Kahoot! game to test their knowledge gained from the morning’s presentation. Additional information will be provided at various opportunities throughout the year, through coffee mornings and parent evenings.
