The IB Career-related Programme
Expanding the depth of Patana Pathways on offer
Parents of students in Years 9 and 10 were invited to join a meeting about the upcoming addition of the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) to the Senior Studies curriculum. As an alternative option to the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) that is currently offered in Senior Studies, the IBCP will provide opportunities for students seeking a blend of academic subjects and vocational career-related studies. The IBDP is rightly recognised for the quality of its provision and will remain the cornerstone of the Senior Studies curriculum; however, in acknowledging that the IBDP may not be the right fit for all students, the IBCP is opening to students in August 2024.
The IBCP maintains the core programme of the IB, including a service-learning component but it offers a non-examined continuation of language development, a course in personal and professional skills and a reflective research project. The focus of the IBCP is on depth rather than breadth, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of their chosen area of specialism. For those who missed the meeting and are interested to learn more, the full presentation is viewable online here.
