Once Upon a Time…
Storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton made an appearance in Year 4!
Last week, Year 4 enjoyed a virtual visit from acclaimed UK author and storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton who provided an exciting introduction to their upcoming Writing unit on fables and the important morals they teach.
Sally captivated the children with two traditional tales. The first was the ancient Greek story of King Midas’s donkey ears, and the second was a folktale from Bangladesh about a king who had no shoes. Both stories demonstrated how fables and folktales have been used for generations to share wisdom and life lessons.
The interactive session encouraged children to become active participants rather than just listeners. Everyone enjoyed joining in with the actions, sounds, and storytelling techniques that brought the tales to life. The enthusiasm in the shared area was clear as the children listened carefully and engaged throughout the visit.
At the end of the session, the children asked a range of thoughtful and well-considered questions. There was so much curiosity that they ran out of time, and many classes are planning to email Sally with further questions of their own.
Year 4 are now looking forward to exploring more folktales and fables in class before creating and writing their own stories in the coming weeks.
