Wrapping Up Term 2 with Songkran Spirit
A Splash of Culture and Celebration
What better way to wrap up a lively Term 2 than with a week bursting with colour, culture and community spirit? Our campus came alive as Primary and Secondary students came together to celebrate Songkran, Thailand’s traditional New Year.
The week was filled with hands‑on cultural activities, all leading up to one unforgettable highlight: the Songkran Assembly. Music, laughter and dancing set the tone as students took part in the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony—a beautiful Thai tradition where scented water is gently poured over the hands and feet of elders to ask for blessings. It was a moment that captured the true spirit of Songkran: respect, gratitude and togetherness.
The stage then lit up with stunning student performances, including a graceful Rum Thai dance and a memorable Khon performance by a talented Year 5 student.
Beyond the celebrations, the assembly was also a chance to recognise student achievements from across the term. Chang House was crowned Term 2 champions—after a very long wait—soaring to the top of the leaderboard. Patana Poetry Prize winners were also announced with Ethan Choi from Year 9 winning the first prize for his entry ‘In the Act of Beginning’. Just when the applause seemed to fade, Grad ’26 surprised everyone with an epic flash mob, delivering the perfect mix of fun and emotion as they marked the final stretch of their Secondary school journey.
Adding to the celebrations, Grad’26 students who completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award received certificates from Secondary Principal Matt Seddon and Cross Campus Principal Cindy Adair. Matt closed the assembly with warm words, giving a special mention to Year 11 and 13 students heading into their study break, and sending the community off with heartfelt Songkran wishes.
Wishing our entire community a very Happy Songkran!
