UKMT Senior Maths Challenge

UKMT Senior Maths Challenge

Calling our enthusiastic mathematicians…

Over 150 Secondary students participated in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, which presented them with a collection of 25 interesting puzzles to solve. These puzzles encouraged students (and staff!) to apply their maths skills to unfamiliar and challenging problems. This was the first time in three years that the UKMT Maths Challenge has been conducted without laptops and students really enjoyed the opportunity to work out the problems using pencil and paper – the way traditionalists prefer maths to be done! After the students’ solutions have been scored, the top-scoring 66% will be awarded with Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. There are also award categories for ‘Best in Year’ and ‘Best in School’. Around 1,000 of the highest performers are invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 – we look forward to seeing how our Secondary students performed!

If you are an enthusiastic mathematician, try your hand at the problem below which was taken from a previous challenge. Feel free to send your answer to sami@patana.ac.th!
