Year 11 and Senior Studies Students Balance Academic Studies with Physical Education

Year 11 and Senior Students learn to balance health and fitness with academic studies.

Prioritising health and fitness during exam years has a positive impact on both final exam results and student well-being. Year 11 and Senior Studies students are offered 80 minutes of PE a week and are able to change to something new every six weeks.

They can also take part in sporting and first aid qualifications as well as using their PE activity as part of the CAS programme. Sports/leisure activities include Football (Football Academy), Basketball, Touch Rugby, Volleyball, Tennis (Tennis Academy), Badminton, Fitness (Weight Training/Spinning), Kayaking, Climbing, Dance (Dance Academy), Softball, Trampolining, Ultimate Frisbee, Squash and Table Tennis. Students will also have the opportunity to access the following qualifications: Emergency First Responder (First Aid Course), FA Wales Level 1 in Football Coaching, NRASTC Pool Lifeguard, Swim Australia Level 1 Swim Coach, Sports Leaders UK Level 1.  Varsity athletes can also opt for Swimming, Tennis and Football to have an extra training session during their PE lessons with specialist coaches.

All in all, our Year 11 and Senior Studies students are given the opportunity to not only get out of the classroom to exercise but also to enjoy teamwork and community engagement as part of the school’s commitment to contributing to our students holistic well-being.
