Year 3 is Metallic!

Year 3 is Metallic!

No irony here, Year 3 is learning about metals!

This term, Year 3 students are going metallic as they embark on their new learning unit ‘Mighty Metals’. In Science, teachers, can combine this with the students prior learning on atomic theory. The children have already gained an impressive knowledge of atomic theory from Year 1 and 2, so their teachers are keen to build on and develop this.

So far, students have explored and compared the atomic mass of different metal elements in the Periodic Table, identifying their internal structure of electrons and protons. Many students are already familiar with the symbols for different elements and don’t be surprised if you hear names such as potassium, magnesium, sodium and lithium being openly discussed. Next, we will be looking at the reactivity of different metals in various acidic solutions!
