Year 5 Study the Rights of the Child

Year 5 met in a virtual assembly to learn about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Students in Year 5 met in a virtual assembly as Year group to learn more about the United Nations’ Rights of the Child. They read the book We are all Born Free, a beautiful book of illustrations that celebrates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Although the book is 60 years old, students found it still so relevant today. They learned of the many important rights listed in the Declaration. One of these is the right to choose our own friends and to be part of a group. One difficulty with online learning is giving children across the Year group the opportunity to meet their friends outside their class. Online assemblies help the students connect, and reconnect, with others in their Year Group. It also helps our Primary leaders to connect with the students and share their love of reading as Senior Teacher Peter Taylder did with We are all Born Free.
