Year 6 Poetry Competition

Year 6 Poetry Competition

Unity in performance poetry

Year 6 held their annual Poetry Competition this week, an eagerly anticipated event that has run throughout the entire duration of Mr Mills’ 15-year tenure at Bangkok Patana. As such, the students wanted to ensure that his final experience of the competition would be a fabulous one. The students did not disappoint!

This year’s focus was on migrations. Students produced some exceptional poetry pieces featuring magnificent metaphors that provoked emotional responses from their readers. The range of poetry, from sci-fi migrations to the moon, to the plight of leatherback turtles, provided an exceptional literary feast.

The poetry competition does encourage a friendly rivalry between classes, but one of the great highlights of the event is the unity between all Year 6 students when they perform a poem all together. This year, the selected poem was “The Caged Bird” by Maya Angelou to depict the contrast between those who are free and those who are not. It was a powerful portrayal of a united poetry performance. Another year of expression, recital and performance!
