Fossils and Evolution in Year 9

Year 9 Biology students study fossils to learn more about evolution.

Year 9 Biologists are currently exploring the evidence for evolution that can be found within fossils. The students are using models and real fossils to allow them to get a good idea of how fossils change over time and to show a record of the intermediate fossils that we have.

Soon they will be choosing an organism to study in more detail to answer the question, “How have forms of locomotion evolved?” using named examples, information they gather from this unit and library research. Students are being given the chance to use genuine exploration in an area of biology fundamental to the understanding of all others.
