Geography in Year 8

Geography in Year 8

How has tourism affected us?

Year 8 students are studying about tourism in Geography this term. Throughout the topic students learnt about the growth in the tourism industry over the past 50 years; the social, economic and environmental impacts of tourism and the ways in which tourism can be managed sustainably in the future. This topic explores different areas of Thailand as a case study to help students to understand the different theories and concepts.

This week, Year 8 students are looking at the ways in which tourist resorts change over time as outlined in the geographical ‘Butler model’.  They have been getting creative and making their own ‘stop-motion’ videos using whiteboards or plasticine to demonstrate their learning. They applied the model to the resort town of Pattaya and have been analysing it to determine which stage of the model Pattaya currently fits into.
