The Sport of Reading – Kid’s Lit Quiz

Literature becomes competitive

The Thailand Kid’s Lit Quiz National Final 2023 was hosted by Bangkok Patana, facilitating a competition in the Sport of Reading between various local international schools. Attendees included 13 schools with 36 teams (144 students total). In this fourth annual event, Bangkok Patana’s Team 3 tied for second place! This was the first Kid’s Lit Quiz Thailand heat to take place live since the pandemic and it sure was wonderful to have a huge ‘buzz’ about books. The quiz master, Mr Wayne Mills, has run this worldwide competition for over 30 years, asking questions that cover a wide range of books – from classics to Young Adult literature and picture books.

Kid’s Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 – 13 years old and is held globally in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand and the US. In this National Final round, students were quizzed in five categories with 12 – 15 questions in each category. Students definitely benefit from a wide reading knowledge base in order to be successful. The first round of heats took place in the Primary Hall, with 36 teams battling for the coveted six spots in the final round, to be held in the Theatre. The winning teams of each National Competition will be invited to compete in the Kid’s Lit Quiz World Final.
