Year 2 Learns the Importance of Food

Healthy local produce – good for our bodies and our environment!

With a driving question that dives into why food is important, Year 2 students welcomed a special alumni guest who opened their eyes to the wonders of plants and the significance of locally grown food. Udit Dhawan, Grad’08 and owner of local health-food company Pranaa, arrived at the Year 2 building with a big smile and a bag of colourful fruits. Students’ eyes began sparkling with curiosity as Mr Udit began his presentation on the rich biodiversity of Thailand and the value of plants within the local environment. He guided the students on a virtual journey through the lush landscapes of Thailand, describing the abundance of fruits and vegetables that grow locally. From vibrant tropical fruits to aromatic herbs, the students’ mouths were surely watering as they learned about the incredible variety of fresh produce right at their doorstep. Mr Udit then encouraged the students to discuss the importance of buying local foods, explaining how it supports farmers whilst reducing carbon emissions caused by long-distance transportation. Year 2 students were left with an appreciation for the food that grows right here in Thailand, as well as a better understanding of the impact their buying choices make on the world around them.
