Year 4’s Trail to Everest

Year 4’s Trail to Everest

Everest exploration and excitement

In anticipation of visiting author Matt Dickinson’s return to Bangkok Patana, Year 4 students have started a journey of exploring Mount Everest through a collection of bright, colourful and engaging media. As part of their Guided Reading sessions, some classes have selected “Everest” by Sangma Francis and Liak Feng. Through this invaluable resource, students have learned about what makes a climber. The stunning illustrations led Year 4 students to choose an aspect of Mount Everest that most fascinates them, from the required climbing equipment to the role of the Sherpas. The Plika, an alpine animal, sparked many students’ interest. Utilising the knowledge gained through this activity, the students then set out to gather resources, conduct research and create their own leaflets about Mount Everest.
