Virtual Visit by UK Poet and Rapper
UK poet and rapper Mark Grist ran virtual poetry sessions.
UK poet and rapper – and former teacher – Mark Grist was on screen with the Year 8s running virtual poetry sessions. They enjoyed hearing him perform poems and raps then they asked him questions about his work, his approach to writing and the differences between poetry and rap. Mark led a session in which students wrote their own poems. Students chose a person they are close to and followed Mark’s prompts to create a ten-line poem dedicated to that person, using metaphors. Year 8 will build on the skills and ideas they developed in their sessions with Mark in their English lessons.
