Year 1 Challenged to Design Towers
Year 1 rose to the challenge to design the tallest tower.
Year 1 students were set a challenge: design and build a tower from materials at home. They were asked to use a variety of different materials and to build the tower to be strong and stable. The children tried to build the tower as tall as possible with the materials they had. They were asked to consider design ideas, such as an element at the top that made it stand out.
This design challenge used their spatial skills and saw them implementing geometry concepts they didn’t even know they knew! Placing the blocks of materials also helps them develop their fine motor skills – and is a lot of fun! Who built the tallest tower?
