Year 6 Explore African Art

Year 6 students are exploring the Tingatinga style of art.

Year 6 artists really showed their skills as they explored African art styles focusing on Tingatinga. They have been studying the works of Edward Saidi Tingatinga. Edward Saidi created the style that was named after him over 50 years ago in Tanzania. Tingatina expresses the unique, vibrant and bold colours of Africa and the animals that live there. Students chose an animal and started by sketching the animal using techniques such as shapes and lines for the animal and background. Next, the artists added detail before finally colouring (or painting) in the bright, bold colours that make it a Tingatinga piece of art. Students used their imaginations to create backgrounds, and their artistic skills to create their masterpieces in the Tingatinga style.
