Year 8 Getting Their Bearings

Year 8 Getting Their Bearings

Could you manage without your GPS? These Year 8 students probably could…

Year 8 Students set out on a trail using compasses and the mathematics they learned (and some help from the Outdoor Education Department) to locate landmarks on a specific bearing and measure the bearing of others. Students will find this a useful skill on their adventures in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in a few years, and perhaps even on their adventures over the upcoming holidays! There was no chance to use GPS shortcuts and the students certainly appreciated the challenges of orienteering!
